I welcome the opportunity to introduce this International Massage in Schools instructor training on Sunday 3rd & Monday 4th March 2019 at the Golden Egg Holistic Centre. Peer massage assists children to improve their concentration, develop more positive relationships and can be an anti-bullying tool.
Whether you’re a teacher, child care worker, therapist, parent or you work with young children in another capacity, taking the Massage in Schools Programme (MISP) training will give you some new skills to help make a difference to the lives of children from 4– 12 years. www.massageinschools.com
MISP was launched in 2000 in London by an infant massage instructor from Sweden and her Canadian colleague. Their aim is to ensure that every child in the world experiences positive, nurturing touch every day. It is based on the evidence that respectful touch can encourage self-esteem, confidence and mutual respect. MISP is now conducted in over 35 countries.
Children must ask permission before they touch their partner and thereby learn to respect each other. This can act as very early promotion of the importance of caring, nurturing touch to another human. Children are grouped in pairs and administer 10 minutes of simple massage strokes to each other on the back, neck, shoulders, head arms and hands on their clothed body. This respectful touch as well as asking permission helps to empower children to say ‘no’ to unwelcome touch. The Massage in Schools Program can also be conducted in community settings and child care centres with groups of children. It can also be used with parents and children in a group or individually, which is a great way to enhance the attachment between parents and children.
At the completion of the 2 days the participants will receive an
International instructor qualification with a certificate which allows the instructor to teach the program in the following situations, where children must always be present:
- Children and their teacher in a classroom setting
- Children and carers in a child care setting
- Community program for parents and their children, either as a holiday program or as a weekly program during the school term.
- Community workers who work with parents and children eg. when re-engaging families when the children have been removed
- Practitioners who work with parents and children individually.
To assist with this work the instructor will receive:
- Professional hands on training of the Massage in Schools Program (MISP) routine and other touch & movement activities
- MISP Instructor's manual
- MISP Stroke Learning Cards
